Warmduscher!
The leaves in the water that comes from a little stream in the forest create this red coloured water.
Swimming with Sebastian
Of course Nini had to try what sand tastes like.

Man, now it's been over two weeks since my last update on here (again - so sorry about that) but I simply haven't found the time tp write anything let alone go online on the computer. However, there are definitely a couple of things, places, and adventures I can't wait to tell you about.
About two and a half weeks ago my host family and I went to Jervis Bay (NSW), Sanctuary Point to be exact. We spent a long weekend (Thu-Sun) there and got to experience and enjoy the beauty of Australia's east coast without the business like it exists in Sydney. Our drive there was about three hours long (for Australians that really is only a short drive) and I had the honour to spend it on the backseat with Sebastian and Despina. Thanks to croissants, plush toys and all the things to see the drive was quite okay and actually quite pleasant though.
Once we had reached our destination, we of course went to the beach straight away and boy, that was one awesome beach - the sand was so white that my eyes were hurting, the water was blue as the sky and we even got to see a whale. The region all around the southern east coast of Australia is known for the whales traversing the ocean in that area. Of course there are quite a few tourism agencies who make use of that and offer several tours where tourists get the chance to see whales in the wild. I also joined one of those tours but I'll talk more about that later.
Sebastian and Despina were having a blast at the beach and absolutely loved the sand and water and of course had to try out all of their beach toys straight away. Both of them absolutely seemed to love the holiday experience and even two weeks later Sebastian still keeps talking about the beach house and the beach. The beach house "The Shack" didn't really deserve the name shack as it was absolutely perfect for our family - nicely arranged furniture, cosy rooms, a balcony with a view all over the lake and a huge amount of toys for the kids.
I had the privilege of sharing a room with Sebastian which automatically meant that I was woken up by a whinging kid in the middle of the night just because he wanted me to open the door and getting u at half past five in the morning because you really don't say no when a three-year-old asks you if you could take him to the toilet. I didn't really mind that though as I really do enjoy spending time with the little ones and I also got the opportunity to go for a run in the mornings. The running trail has got to be my favourite one ever - sand, rocks, nature, a beautiful view and now and then a parrot crossing the path.

After nap time the five of us went to the Booderee National Park. Alex and Lizzie really wanted to show me the Green Patch a beach which really is worth a visit. They also wanted me to show this place because apparently you can see lots of parrots there and my expectations were absolutely exceeded when about thirty parrots were pretty much just waiting for us to feed them. We found some sunflower seeds on the ground just near a group of benches and tables and the bird loved them so much that soon I carried about three birds on each of my arms as well as one or two on my head. The animals were very trusting and if you knew how to interact with birds, you were even able to pet them. I think the kids were a little bit afraid of the birds and they rater spent the time eating the cookies I had made the day before our holiday (chocolate chip and Anzac cookies - I am learning to bake Australian style here haha).
For me the whole trip was a complete success at that point as I really miss my two budgies back in Germany. I would have loved to take one of the king parrots (the green and red ones) home xD The day got even better when we arrived at the beach. Just look at the pictures above and you'll see what I mean when I say that it was absolutely beautiful.

Of course, there was no way of getting around going for my first swim in the Pacific Ocean. Sebastian managed to get himself completely wet after a wave completely knocked him over and after a short moment of shock he just ran back into the water. To me that was the moment when I said "Let's get into the swimmers and jump into the water!" Compared to most lakes and the sea back in Germany the water was actually quite warm (probably around 22°C). My host parents, however, and apparently many other Australians too seem to be unwilling to go swimming anywhere where the water temperature is below 25°C
The second day of our short holiday trip was much more quiet. I looked after the kids in the morning and took them to the playground just by the lake as Lizzie and Alex went for a hike in the national park that morning. The weather was not as nice as the day before, so we spent most of the day near the beach house where the kids played with what to me seemed like every toy they could find. In the evening Alex and I went to the lake to find a good fishing spot, so I at least got to enjoy a beautiful sunset that day.
Friday night, Alex' best friend Owen who would spend the rest of the weekend with us arrived at the beach house. Owen also accompanied me on the whale-watching tour I already mentioned earlier. The tour consisted of a two-hour trip on a boat and luckily the sunshine (you should have seen Owen's sunburn omg) made it possible to enjoy the tour just in a shirt and long pants despite the wind and water surrounding us. The tour guide led us all the way from Huskisson into the Pacific where we also met a whale cow with her calf. Unfortunately we were not allowed to get to close as the young calf might get scared but it was still really impressive and breathtaking to see the whales in the wild. It was impossible to take pictures of them though because not only were the whales quite far away but they also didn't jump out or show their fins for a long time. However, the beautiful cliffs, caves and the view all over the coast still made the tour totally worth the $33 I had paid for it.
After a short break back at the beach house, all of us went back to the national park again to go to the beach once again - this time we went to Murray's Beach. Lizzie and I went on a short but beautiful beach walk and then I joined Sebastian who was already playing in the water again. This time Nini joined us too :)
Unfortunately the Sunday and last day of our short holiday was not as enjoyable for me. I had already had a few troubles with my stomach the day before but I ignored them because I thought that my lactose intolerance was just showing off or that the swell had made me go green a little bit. Once I was feeling exactly the same way on the next day too, it was clear that I was just about to get sick and after a couple of hours I felt so bad that I couldn't eat anything for over 24h and simply felt flat. As a result, I spent most of the time at the beach just lying on my towel that day and after our return to Canberra around 4pm, I went straight into bed and stayed there until the next morning. Nevertheless, the trip to Jervis Bay was still absolutely great and I can only recommend going there as you hardly ever see beaches like that which are not completely crowded and the national park is just gorgeous!
Until next time,
Your Kristina
